WELCOME TO SHARIF EYE CENTER
Implantable Contact Lenses
New technology for vision correction procedures
We implanted the first ICL in Jordan in 1998
ICL is a special type of contact lens that can be implanted permanently inside the eye, (behind the pupil), to correct the vision of patients who suffers from severe short sight (up to–25.00) or long sight (up to + 12.00) that are not correctable with LASIK surgery. At Sharif Eye Centers we are the First Eye Center in Jordan to be recognized by "Staar Technologies”, the manufacturers of ICL in Switzerland, to be experienced and qualified to provide this technology for our patients.
The ICL procedure takes only 10 minutes per eye and the visual recovery is rapid. We offer this technology to our patients who have very high short sight, (over minus 12) or high long sight (over plus 5). It is also offered to patients for whom LASIK could not be performed due to lack of good corneal thickness (Cornea that is too thin).
What this lens looks like?
The ICL simply is like regular contact lens, but instead of having the lens on the cornea, we implant it behind the iris.
Thanks to its unique polymer (COLLAMER), human eye accepts the ICL for life time and will never reject it.
What is the best age to have this technology?
How the doctor implants the ICL?
The ICL is foldable, so the doctor folds it and implants it through very small surgical tool then release it just behind the iris, where it takes its shape to correct the patient’s vision.
Injecting the ICL takes less than a minute and the whole procedure takes about 10 minutes under topical anesthesia (numbing drops).
Who is the candidate for this procedure?
Any myopia (nearsightedness) more than 12.00 Diopters.
Any Hypermetropia (farsightedness) more than 5.00 Diopters.
Any patient with thin cornea, and not fit for LASIK procedure.
Can I see the ICL after the implantation?
No, the ICL is transparent and only the doctor under microscope can see it
Implanting the lens takes only a minute and the human eye accepts the lens for lifetime.
